ScanMaster™

Developed for our Digital PlateMaster Series, the ScanMaster™ system provides off-the-glass scanning and descreening capabilities. It allows you to import and manipulate images, text, line art and tints from hard copy or pre-printed originals and integrate them into your digital workflow.

ScanMaster does not merely scan the entire page then send it to a plate. Rather, it allows the user to bring in color and black and white originals, screened originals, text (even on a tinted area), photographs and other pieces, then manipulate the various elements to create a digital document.

This is all done through an easy-to-use graphic interface on the ScanMaster system. There’s no need to switch between text, scanning and layout programs and no multitude of software applications to learn.

ScanMaster now also works in conjunction with the A.B.Dick Colour Digital Press and the D-Stat Platemaking System. This allows you to take an already-printed piece or hard copy original and have short run digital prints made of it (you can even make alterations), without having the original digital file, or needing to go back to the desktop publishing area.

EasyTrap™

EasyTrap™ is an easy-to-use, fully automatic, in-RIP trapping solution for the DPM. Because EasyTrap is integrated into the DPM’s PrintersRIP, it optimizes workflow efficiency and throughput by eliminating the bottleneck caused by manual trapping.

EasyTrap is flexible and works smoothly with jobs that are created with dedicated pre-press or graphics applications, such as Quark XPress® and Adobe PageMaker®, that have built-in trapping capabilities. EasyTrap understands and facilitates those settings. Or, EasyTrap can do all the work for jobs that are submitted untrapped. And since there’s no need to purchase multiple versions of trapping software for every Mac and PC workstation, EasyTrap will also reduce costs.

With EasyTrap, trapping is performed automatically by creating a setting in the Trapset dialog box. Trapset allows the user to create a setting name, define choke values and normal or highlight trap colors and limit the number of objects to be trapped.

In addition, screen angles, ink maximums and overprint relationships can all be defined and saved for future use.

EasyTrap provides the opportunity to view traps before going to final output by simply selecting the page in the PrintersRIP then “roaming” it at high resolution. This ensures you are getting highly workable plates and simplifies the printing process.

OpenProof™

A.B.Dick’s OpenProof™ software, developed specifically for the DPM, gives printers with two-tower presses a practical, easy-to-use proofing system. It prints progressive, process color proofs in any combination of one, two, three or four process colors.

When four-color process work is done on a two-tower press, the sheet must run through the press twice. The first pass puts down two of the colors – black and cyan, for example; and the second pass adds the remaining two – magenta and yellow. A difficulty that occurs using this method is that almost all digital proofing systems produce only four-color composite proofs. With the absence of film, there was no way to get a progressive proof for the first pass through the press – until now.

OpenProof gives small format printers with two tower presses a very cost-effective, easy-to-use proofing system. Once a job has been ripped to the DPM, the flexible OpenProof software allows the operator to specify a custom separated proof in any combination of one, two, three or four process colors they choose. This results in less guesswork and greater color accuracy.
