D-Stat Platemaking System™
With more and more digital files coming into quick response,
small commercial and in-plant printshops, managers are establishing digital
workflows while still receiving a fair amount of hard copy and camera-ready
materials for printing.
Now, with one easy-to-use system - the D-Stat Platemaking
System™ - press-ready plates can be produced from both digital files and hard
copy originals in a desktop environment. This revolutionary product will replace
conventional cameras and platemakers for short run one- and two-color work up to
100 lpi.
This system provides a low-cost, flexible solution to
‘multi-media’ originals. It comes complete with A.B.Dick’s ScanMaster software,
color scanner, computer workstation, Harlequin® RIP – and a compact desktop
platesetter that uses a clean, thermal ribbon technology to image onto polyester
plates.
ScanMaster® – A Better Way to Process Hard Copy Originals and Bring Them
Into a Digital Workflow
Say goodbye to limitations of optical platemaking and take
advantage of the benefits of a completely digital workflow – including better
quality and easier updates with fewer steps for faster turnaround.
ScanMaster® software lets you create a digital document from
any hard copy original(s) – even pre-screened ones. There’s no need to switch
between (and understand) various text, scanning and layout programs. It’s all
done via ScanMaster’s easy-to-use graphical interface on the D-Stat workstation.
Originals may be color or black and white, camera-ready or pre-printed. They may
contain text, line art, photos, solids, tints and gradients.
In essence, you’ll do a ‘digital paste-up.’ Simply scan in the
document (or pieces of documents) and position them precisely on the layout.
Then, make fine adjustments to any or all elements on the page if desired.
Brighten a dim image, sharpen text, add a logo or block of text, define an area
with color, swap out a photo, etc.
After creating the perfect digital document, preview and print
out your plates. You can keep the finished document for future runs.
Conventional methods do not allow such flexibility.
Harlequin® RIP
Harlequin® RIPs are known throughout the industry to offer an
exemplary level of performance in reliability, quality, speed, breadth,
flexibility and responsiveness.
The D-Stat System integrates the same high quality Harlequin® RIP that’s used
with our Digital PlateMaster line. Mac and PC users alike will appreciate the
benefits of this fully Postscript® 3 compatible software RIP.
To generate plates, the user simply ‘prints’ to the D-Stat
platesetter from any graphics or business application just as they would to any
other printer. In addition to these native-application documents, the RIP also
processes Postscript and PDF files.
D-Stat Platesetter
The D-Stat Platesetter delivers excellent image quality
resulting in smooth, crisp text, sharp line work, high density solids and clean
halftones up to 100 lpi.
Comparable in size and style to a mid-size inkjet printer, it has an image area
of 12.7" x 18.8" (323 x 478mm). You can print full-bleed tabloid (SRA3) with
crop and register marks. It accommodates popular plate sizes up to 13.4 x 19.9"
(340 x 505mm).
Toner Free
The platesetter is toner-free, using ink ribbon cassettes and
thermal transfer technology to image polyester plates. That means no mess, no
fingerprints and no backgrounding or toner spatter that could pick up ink
on-press. It’s a clean process with clear results.
D-Stat Plates
The 5 mil polyester base of D-Stat Plates provides excellent
dimensional stability and ensures accurate image size and good register for spot
color work. You’ll get up to 5,000 impressions per plate.
No Etch Needed
D-Stat plates require no plate etch or post-imaging fusing.
The plate is press-ready straight from the platesetter. This environmentally
friendly approach enables operators to work in closed studio conditions.
When ready to go on press, just wipe the plate surface with
fountain solution and go. If printing is interrupted, simply re-wet with
fountain solution or clean water before restarting. D-Stat plates recover very
quickly.
Fountain Solution
D-Stat plates are compatible with most fountain solutions
including MEGA® Fountain Solution and LaserClean®. Other silver emulsion master
and electrostatic solutions are also compatible. Use fountain solutions at their
recommended dilution or pH strength.
Printing Inks
D-Stat plates are compatible with most inks – rubber base, soy
base, oil base and UV.
A System That Grows as Your Business Grows
Think of the D-Stat System™ as an equity investment in the
future growth of your business. As you attain new levels in production, you may
want to consider expanding capabilities and services – in the process-color
arena for example.
A.B.Dick Digital PlateMaster® systems produce high quality, high resolution
press-ready plates and are particularly suited for spot and four color process
applications.
Since the D-Stat System incorporates the same ScanMaster
software and RIP that’s used with DPMs – and the workflow is identical – when it
comes time to upgrade, the transition to a Digital PlateMaster is a smooth one.
Operators will already be completely familiar with production methods and
skilled in using the software.
